The Staverton Close
Christmas Lights Switch On
Saturday 2nd December, 5.30 pm

Like last year and the year before that, Staverton Close are doing our very own Christmas Lights Switch On!

We'll count down to the epic illuminations coming on simultaneously with military precision at 5.30 p.m. (meet from 5.00 p.m.) before potentially indulging in mulled wine, Polish vodka, mince pies and of course, a Christmas singalong!

If you are around please come out and join your friends and neighbours in a superbly stoical show of seasonal spirit as we, as a community, light up the night sky with wonderfully over-indulgent colourful Christmas images, hedge lights, icicle lights and other twinkly offerings, and fill the air with yuletide songs.

On the day, do please leave your lights off until the actual switch on for maximum impact. If you aren't able to be around, perhaps you might leave yours turned off as well, please.

Click the SONG WORDS HERE button below for a song sheet with which to sing along. If you have problems viewing the words, please EMAIL and a file can be sent directly to your inbox.

Dress up warm and let's add a little Staverton Close cheer to Christmas this year!

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock

Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring

Snowin' and blowin' up bushels of fun

Now the jingle hop has begun

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock

Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time

Dancin' and prancin' in Jingle Bell Square

In the frosty air

What a bright time, it's the right time

To rock the night away

Jingle bell time is a swell time

To go glidin' in a one-horse sleigh

Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet

Jingle around the clock

Mix and a-mingle in the jinglin' feet

That's the jingle bell,

That's the jingle bell,

That's the jingle bell rock.

______

Sleigh bells ring, are you listenin’

In the lane snow is glistenin’

A beautiful sight we’re happy tonight

Walkin’ in a winter wonderland

Gone away is the bluebird

Here to stay is a new bird

He sings a love song

As we go along

Walkin’ in a winter wonderland

In the meadow we can build a snowman

And pretend that he is Parson Brown

He’ll say are you married

We’ll say no man

But you can do the job when you’re in town

Later on we’ll conspire

As we dream by the fire

To face unafraid, the plans that we’ve made

Walkin’ in a winter wonderland!

______

O little town of Bethlehem,

How still we see thee lie!

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep

The silent stars go by.

Yet in thy dark streets shineth

The everlasting Light;

The hopes and fears of all the years

Are met in thee to-night.

______

When the snowman brings the snow

Well he just might like to know

He's put a great big smile on somebody's face

If you jump into your bed

Quickly cover up your head

Don't you lock the doors

You know that sweet Santa Claus in on the way

[Chorus]

Well I wish it could be Christmas every day

When the kids start singing and the band begins to play

Oh I wish it could be Christmas every day

So let the bells ring out for Christmas

______

Deck the Close with LED lights

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Wall, roof, icicle and tree lights.

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Now they’re up! T’was quite a labour.

Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.

Mulled wine sup and sing with neighbour.

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

See the twinkling hedge before us.

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Light your lights and join the chorus.

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Do indulge in fun and laughters

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

While the power comp'nies shaft us

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Fast away the old year passes.

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Eat mince pies and fill your glasses.

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Singing loud with all of you here.

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Merry Christmas, happy new year!

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

9 Ladies Dancing

8 Maids a Milking

7 Swans a Swimming

5 Gold Rings

4 Calling Birds

______

Rudolph the red nosed reindeer

Had a very shiny nose

And if you ever saw it

You would even say it glowed

All of the other reindeer

Used to laugh and call him names

They never let poor Rudolph

Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve

Santa came to say

Rudolph with your nose so bright

Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight

Then how the reindeer loved him

As they shouted out with glee

Rudolph the red nosed reindeer

You’ll go down in history.

______

O come, all ye faithful,

Joyful and triumphant,

O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;

Come and behold him,

Born the King of angels;

O come, let us adore him,

O come, let us adore him,

O Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

______

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas

Just like the ones I used to know

Where the treetops glisten,

and children listen

To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas

With every Christmas card I write

May your days be merry and bright

And may all your Christmases be white

______

Dashing through the snow, In a one horse open sleigh

O’er the fields we go, Laughing all the way.

Bells on bobtail ring, making spirits bright,

What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight, oh!

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,

Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh,

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,

Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh,

______

Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor man came in sight
Gath'ring winter fuel

______

Oh, the weather outside is frightful

But the fire is so delightful

And since we’ve no place to go

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

It doesn’t show signs of stopping

And I brought some corn for popping

The lights are turned way down low

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight

How I’ll hate going out in the storm

But if you really hold me tight

All the way home I’ll be warm

The fire is slowly dying

And my dear we’re still good-byeing

But as long as you love me so

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

_____

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,

Let your heart be light.

From now on our troubles will be out of sight.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,

Make the yuletide gay.

Next year all our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore,

Faithful friends who are dear to us gather near to us once more.

Some day soon we all will be together,

If the fates allow.

Hang a shining star upon the highest bow,

And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

_____

Rockin’ around the Christmas tree

At the Christmas party hop

Mistletoe hung where you can see

Every couple tries to stop

Rockin’ around the Christmas tree

Let the Christmas spirit ring

Later we’ll have some pumpkin pie

And we’ll do some carolling

You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear

Voices singing let’s be jolly

Deck the halls with boughs of holly

Rockin’ around the Christmas tree

Have a happy holiday

Everyone’s dancing merrily

In a new old fashioned way.

______

Are you hanging up your stocking on the wall?

It's the time that when every Santa has a ball

Does he ride a red-nosed reindeer? Does a ton up on his sleigh?

Do the fairies keep him sober for a day?

So here it is Merry Christmas, everybody’s having fun

Look to the future now, It’s only just begun….

______

We wish you a merry Christmas,

We wish you a merry Christmas,

We wish you a merry Christmas,

And a Happy New Year!

Good tidings we bring for you and your kin;

We wish you a merry Christmas

And a Happy New Year!
